This glorious 30-year-old Laphroaig 1988 came from single cask 9201 and was an edition of just 139 bottles at its nigh-perfect drinking strength of 48.1%. Over three decades of maturation the raw intensity of Laphroaig's smoke has been tamed, with the peat's phenols now transformed into a gentler sootiness, allowing much greater nuances of flavour, allowing room for notes of tinned fruit syrup, salty seaweed, hessian, chargrilled citrus,Ā kippers, beach bonfiresĀ and wet sand.
